Just because it hasn't worked in Chicago doesn't mean it won't work period. Other countries ban guns just fine. It's about enforcement.

It's impossible to enforce a gun ban when all you have to do is drive to the next town to buy them.

If we were to implement restrictions it would have to be nation-wide, or else it would be too easily thwarted.

Very clever. I tend to agree, but I waited two years after the release of the original iPhone for Verizon to offer something comparable that wasn't a Blackberry. Fortunately, I live in Atlanta (can't believe I just typed that sentence ...) where AT&T's service is just fine. Anyone who thinks it's bad here should go try to download a 100k photo in NYC on a Monday afternoon. Impossible! I think Starbucks has a better network with their AT&T wifi!

Go Ohio! Crush the unions! Return to fiscal sanity. No more hiding behind a union... time to return to personal responsibility. Ohio today, Wisconsin tomorrow, who's next? Sweep the states clean, Tea Party!

BTW, there is no 'RIGHT' to collective bargaining.
Collective bargaining is a legislative privilege granted by friendly law makers in some localities which can be quickly and abruptly eliminated (as you've all just observed.)

Public unions are idiotic. Imagine a private sector union where the union members themselves were able to contribute to the election and vote for the individual whom they'd be bargaining against. BRILLIANT! It's a conflict of interest - straight up.

Interesting quote by Bill Gates recently: (http://www.gatesfoundation.org/foundationnotes/Pages/bill-gates-110302-ted-2011-line-up.aspx) (thanks for the help twice in one day, Billy boy!)

I thought a long time about who I should invite to speak at the session I was asked to curate. I’m really excited about the speakers who are coming, because each of them is contributing to a revolution of one sort or another, fueled by knowledge and innovation. We’ve posted lots of content on Gates Notes related to these speakers and their topics, and eventually their talks will be available online too.

Also, I’m giving my third TED talk in three years. (You can view my talk from 2010 on Energy & Innovating to Zero and from 2009 on Mosquitos, Malaria & Education.) This time, I wanted to share some of what I’ve been learning about state budgets. I got interested in them because states supply most of the money for public education in the United States. What I’ve been learning, though, is that states are under increasingly intense budget pressure, and not just because of the aftereffects of the economic recession, although that has made things worse.

There are long-term problems with state budgets that a return to economic growth won’t solve. Health-care costs and pension obligations are projected to grow at rates that look to be completely unsustainable, unless something is done. But so far, many states aren’t doing much to deal with their fundamental problems. Instead they’re building budgets on tricks – selling off assets, creative accounting – and fictions, like assuming that pension fund investments will produce much higher gains than anyone should reasonably expect.

Eventually they’ll have to make some hard decisions about priorities, and I’m worried that education will suffer, even more than it is suffering already because of budget cuts. The issues are complicated and obscured by the complexities of accounting, so most people don’t fully understand what’s going on. More people need to investigate their state’s budget and get involved in helping to make the right choices. My TED talk is sort of a call to action for citizens, taxpayers, parents, everyone.

The Tea Party will be kicked out of office just as quickly as they were voted in. Hopefully a Democratic wave will come in 2012 and undo most of this crap.

Hahaha, keep telling yourself that! http://www.gallup.com/poll/125066/State-States.aspx ;)

    The "Only way" ?

What, you could not use a laptop?

And how would an iPad only owner read the CD in the 1st place?

Yes the iPad made a nice easy to use picture viewer once you had put the images on it from your real computer at home is what you are saying.

You could just of easy taken a laptop which read the CD images off directly onto the screen and no needed this new device whatsoever.

Who owns a laptop? Not I. Should I pull one out of thin air to appeal to your invalid response?

How would an iPad only owner USE an ipad without activation? Your argument is completely without merit. They make these things called iMacs, try one! They are fantastic for the home, but a little hefty for trip to the doc.

I could have driven a Daewoo, but I took a BMW. *WINK* (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5/audiogodz1/IMG_0053copy.jpg)

    1. No new iphone....just software updates

You didn't seriously expect Apple to realease a new iPhone today (after it went through years of development and has only been on the market for 6 months) did you? A new one is coming this year, just keep your pants on :)

Nice one, Steve ... he's worked for it.

We're here for a good time, not for a long time.

Actually, it was just at least a decade of intentional neglect. Also, most of the work was done by lawyers and architectural consultants.

I'm not fond of Spanish Revival, but this is not the way of doing things...

The iPhone 4 uses the Infineon X-GOLD 61x baseband processor, which supports HSDPA/HSUPA.

    No HSPA+.

    No LTE.

I've read that the Samsung Galaxy S phones use the same chip.

Yes and Palm smartphones and Blackberries never existed before the iPhone.

Name anything that did not build upon previous knowledge.
The 'Apple hasn't invented anything' meme is such nonsense.
Making things usable and desired is probably the biggest invention possible.

And by that what do you mean. iPhones had little impact on phones like the BB Curve

Yeah... And how's that Curve doing?

    This!

You dont get second chances when your register is missing 300

Good point. I was a cashier at Powell's Books many years ago. If my till had been that much short I would have been out on my rear end before the day was over.

As others have said, good luck on the karma side, OP. You're going to need it.

OS X was the reason I moved to a Mac but, oddly, not from Windows. About the time XP came out I became a full time Linux user. I actually liked Windows 2000 okay but once you get used to a REAL command line there's no going back. The lack of commercial software was a pain though. In the business world I used some Adobe products and MS Office.

My best friend got a G3 iBook and while we made fun of him for getting a Mac, I tinkered with it when I had the chance since I knew it was built on Darwin and found I really liked it. My next laptop was a Mac and it's been that way since. The switch to Intel processors made it even better since, with virtualization, this machine can do basically everything I need it to.

    (1) Update to iTunes to allow rentals and the new model Fox apparently has on their new DVD's...I am not expecting HD...I want it, but there have been no rumors at all about it...

    (2) Apple TV Update - Minor Stuff - Mobile iTunes Store, maybe a hard drive bump and possibly a DVD drive, no Blu-Ray.

    (3) iPhone Software Update - Possibly will show off the SDK that is getting launched in February. The 1.1.3 update will happen, but hopefully there will be a few more features like iChat, Games, and Video Recording. No change to hardware.

    (4) Macbook Air - 32gig SSD, No Optical Bay, Very thin, Very light, driven to be a companion notebook for a Consumer, not a replacement for the Powerbook 12" which was aimed at Pro's...Touchpad will be new and innovative.
Chance that it may work as a Sync device through iTunes like an iPod with a Homescreen interface rather than a full blown version of Leopard...ie. you sync all files, programs, and content from your "main" computer.

    (5) "One More Thing" - The Macbook and Macbook Pro's will get the new Touchpad that is in the Macbook Air...

That's about what I think the Keynote will progress through.

iPhone 3g will not be ready until the Christmas Season. Same for iPods, no hardware updates at all to them. The SDK however should be out for the iPod Touch as well.

Cinema Displays, Blu-Ray, and DVD Studio Pro 5 will be launched at NAB in April.

iMac's will not see an update until Spring at the earliest, and again when the mobile quad-core's finally get released which should be late in the year.

    Good luck getting it back.

I've realised most thieves steal near where they live, as it's where they hang out and see opportunities. (no they've never heard of not ******** in their own nest)

I had my bike (only a month old) stolen last week from my front yard (it was heavily locked and bolted to the wall. They cut through the wall bolts with croppers). I assumed it was gone, until I bumped into a teacher who lives on my road.

She said it was possibly a group of rude boys who live at the end of my road - she said the police had visited her school to talk to them three times in one week.

I had a quick peek in their backyard, and I can see what LOOKS like the back wheel of my bike behind a wall.

Hmm. Not worth contacting police, I have no proof it's my bike (brought it cash at a market, no receipt, stallholder brought it at a police auction).

I don't fancy going in either, I'm 32 with a daughter and I don't want to get stabbed over a crummy bike. :(

I can only imagine you're feeling the same way. (You have more proof, but police still won't act.)
